LGBTQ Group Tour Dominican Republic

Authentic Gay Travel in the Caribbean

This LGBTQ group tour through the Dominican Republic combines culture, nature, friendship, and Caribbean lifestyle. Traveling in a small international group, you will discover some of the island’s most beautiful regions, accompanied by a German-speaking tour leader with extensive local expertise.

Your journey begins in Santo Domingo, the oldest city in the Americas, where colonial history meets modern Caribbean culture. Beyond the city’s highlights, you will gain authentic insights into Dominican life and, if you wish, explore the vibrant local LGBTQ and gay nightlife.

The adventure continues to Jarabacoa and the Ébano Verde nature reserve, where tropical forests, waterfalls, cacao plantations, and world-famous Dominican coffee showcase the island’s natural beauty.

Along the spectacular north coast, you will visit Cabrera, the Samaná Peninsula, and charming Las Galeras. Explore pristine beaches, mangroves, and lagoons, enjoy local cuisine, and stay in carefully selected accommodations. Seasonal whale watching in Samaná Bay is one of the tour’s unforgettable highlights.

This gay-friendly Dominican Republic tour offers the perfect blend of nature, culture, relaxation, and meaningful connections in one of the Caribbean’s most welcoming destinations.

YOUR PROGRAM

DAY 1

Welcome to the Dominican Republic! Upon arrival at Santo Domingo or Punta Cana Airport, your driver will be waiting to transfer you comfortably to your hotel in the heart of Santo Domingo’s historic Colonial Zone.

The remainder of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take a stroll through the charming UNESCO-listed old town and soak up the vibrant Caribbean atmosphere. The beautiful Plaza de España is the perfect place to start your Dominican Republic adventure, surrounded by restaurants, bars, and historic landmarks. Enjoy your first evening discovering local flavors and experiencing the lively spirit of one of the Caribbean’s most fascinating cities.

Distance: approx. 30 km from Santo Domingo Airport | approx. 190 km from Punta Cana Airport

Driving time: approx. 30 minutes from Santo Domingo Airport | approx. 2.5 hours from Punta Cana Airport

DAY 2

After breakfast, you will immerse yourself in the fascinating Santo Domingo - a city where colonial history, Caribbean joie de vivre and authentic everyday life meet.

Away from the classic sights, you will get to know the Dominican Republic from a very personal perspective. During a visit to the Fundación Rincón de Luz in the Gualey district, you will gain exciting insights into a local social project and discover the real life of the capital during a tour of the district.

A special experience awaits you during the trip with the Teleférico de Santo Domingo. The cable car floats over the Ozama River and various districts and opens up impressive views of the vibrant metropolis. Depending on the time and interest of the group, there is also the opportunity to visit the spectacular cave lagoons of Los Tres Ojos - one of the most famous natural wonders of Santo Domingos.

Of course, the culinary pleasure is not neglected either. In a local restaurant you can taste typical specialties of Dominican cuisine and experience the variety of Caribbean aromas.

In the afternoon you will discover the historic Zona Colonial, the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest European settlement of the New World. Between colorful colonial buildings, lively squares and historical monuments, you can experience the moving history of the Caribbean up close. A visit to a traditional cigar factory authentically rounds off this eventful day.

When the sun goes down, Santo Domingo shows perhaps his most exciting side. The Zona Colonial transforms into a lively meeting place with trendy bars, stylish rooftops, live music and Caribbean nightlife. Santo Domingo is considered one of the most popular LGBTQ destinations in the Caribbean and inspires with an open, warm atmosphere.

If you want to discover the nightlife together, you can join our CEO Michael Wyss. As a long-time connoisseur of the Dominican Republic and part of the LGBTQ community, he shows you his personal favorite places, popular gay-friendly bars and the best places to celebrate together, dance and experience the authentic nightlife of Santo Domingo.

DAY 3

Today you'll discover one of the Dominican Republic’s most unique natural attractions: the spectacular Baní Dunes, the largest desert landscape in the Caribbean. Stretching along the coastline, these golden sand dunes create a striking contrast against the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.

As you explore this protected nature reserve, you'll encounter an unexpectedly diverse ecosystem featuring cacti, tropical vegetation, and, with a bit of luck, the island’s famous rhinoceros iguanas, a species native to Hispaniola. The dramatic scenery makes this one of the most photogenic locations in the Dominican Republic.

The journey continues to Las Salinas, where sea salt is still harvested using traditional methods that have been passed down through generations. This visit offers fascinating insights into local culture and one of the region’s most important economic activities.

For lunch, you'll enjoy a relaxing break at an elegant beachfront club overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Savor authentic Dominican cuisine, unwind by the pool, or simply soak up the tropical atmosphere.

In the afternoon, you'll return to Santo Domingo with plenty of new impressions and shared memories from another unforgettable day of your LGBTQ group tour through the Dominican Republic.

If your visit falls on a Sunday, you'll have the opportunity to experience one of Santo Domingo’s most authentic cultural events: the legendary Grupo Bonyé open-air concert at the historic Ruinas de San Francisco. Surrounded by colonial ruins, live music, dancing, and an energetic local crowd, you'll experience the true spirit of the Dominican capital. Afterwards, those who wish can join Michael Wyss to explore Santo Domingo’s vibrant LGBTQ-friendly nightlife, popular bars, and local hotspots.

Distance: approx. 180 kmDriving time: approx. 3 hours including sightseeing stops

DAY 4

Today your LGBTQ group tour takes you into the lush heart of the Dominican Republic. Leaving Santo Domingo behind, you'll travel through the fertile Cibao Valley, one of the country's most important agricultural regions, known for its coffee, cacao, banana, and rice plantations.

Along the way, you'll enjoy spectacular mountain scenery and panoramic views of the Central Highlands. A stop at the Vista al Valle Casabito viewpoint offers breathtaking views across the Cibao Valley and provides the perfect opportunity for memorable photos.

Another scenic stop awaits at the impressive Virgen de la Altagracia monument, one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks, overlooking the surrounding mountains and valleys.

For lunch, you'll enjoy authentic Dominican cuisine at a traditional restaurant near Jarabacoa. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, this is the perfect place to relax and experience the flavors of the Dominican countryside.

Depending on weather conditions and the group's preferences, there may be an opportunity to visit one of the nearby waterfalls. Jarabacoa is often referred to as the eco-adventure capital of the Dominican Republic, famous for its rivers, forests, and refreshing mountain climate.

One of the highlights of the day is a visit to a local coffee producer. Learn about the cultivation and roasting process of world-class Dominican mountain coffee and enjoy a tasting of freshly brewed local specialties.

After arriving in Jarabacoa, you'll have time to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this charming mountain town. Those who wish can join an evening stroll through the town center and experience authentic Dominican life away from the Caribbean beach resorts.

Distance: approx. 165 km

Driving time: approx. 3 hours including scenic stops

DAY 5

Today brings one of the most delicious experiences of your LGBTQ group tour in the Dominican Republic. In the morning, you'll visit a traditional cacao plantation near San Francisco de Macorís, the heart of the country's cacao-growing region.

During an interactive tour, you'll follow the journey of the cacao bean from harvest to fermentation, drying, roasting, and finally the production of fine chocolate. You'll gain fascinating insights into the cultural and economic importance of cacao in the Dominican Republic and even have the opportunity to create your own chocolate. A traditional Dominican lunch on the plantation completes this authentic culinary experience.

In the afternoon, the journey continues to Cabarete, one of the most vibrant beach destinations on the Dominican Republic's north coast. Known for its beautiful beaches, laid-back atmosphere, and international community, Cabarete has become a favorite destination for kitesurfers, windsurfers, and beach lovers from around the world.

After checking into your beachfront hotel, the remainder of the day is yours to enjoy. Relax by the ocean, take a walk along the golden sandy beach, or explore the town's lively waterfront lined with restaurants, cafés, and beach bars.

As the sun sets, Cabarete reveals its relaxed Caribbean charm. Enjoy dinner by the sea, listen to live music, and soak up the friendly atmosphere that makes this coastal town one of the most enjoyable stops on your LGBTQ Caribbean adventure.
